Stuff I played – September 2026

Well there we have it. Three quarters of the way through the year. So giving some info I was actually considering doing some retrospectives at the half way point of the year to see how I was doing on my goals…but then that idea came and went. As for the month itself this has been a quieter one. One of my gaming evenings got cancelled and we haven’t had people over for our Friday games with general life busyness.

Everything I played

The New

The Crew: Journey to the Center of the Earth: I have a three player group that really enjoys the past iterations of the crew. We have played both previous game scenario books to completion and have played several random games of Deep Sea just for fun at random difficulties. So this was a very simple and obvious pick up for me. I actually find it funny because one of my issues with The Crew was “what counts as a “play” of The Crew?” Sometimes we played like 2 missions and that was put in as a single play, while other times I put in like ten missions and I still counted it as a single play. Fortunately Journey to the Center of the Earth solves that problem because a “play” counts as going through one map. And the maps are interesting because there is some strategy in deciding what mission to take based on what your two options are for the missions and how you feel about it.
Verdict: The Good (for now)

The Good

Capital Lux 2: So I went out and got a copy of this for myself and this game is so interesting and wild. I keep enjoying what it is doing and I really like how different each round feels even though you are ultimately doing the same thing (trying to control your own total versus the center total for each color). I have so far only played with the “base” set of powers but every time I look at each other power my brain just gets a bit jumbled about how to use them effectively. I look forward to having them kick my butt in the future.

Mystic Curling Club: Another game I picked up after trying it in July! Oh man is this a barrel of fun. Everyone I show this to loves it. The spells are silly, the curling is surprisingly engaging and multiple of my friends who curl say that the game behaves surprisingly similar to actual curling in terms of strategy. I guess the only complaint I have with the game is that it seemed to come to me with some stray glue that appears to have damaged my board a bit…. I probably email Asmadi and ask what can be done about that because I love this game and even with the slightly damaged board it is a hoot for both adults and children!

The Meh

Furnace: This one feels weird to describe. First of all I like Furnace I really do, man I even wrote a whole other post about that…maybe go read it (haha you don’t exist!). I kind of feel like this game is fun but everything it does, I feel that It’s a Wonderful World does better and with some more interesting decisions. Don’t get me wrong, I love the weird bidding system and the compensation mechanic and I can see this becoming a staple of peoples collection. Just maybe not my collection. I think it is time to go and get rid of it 😐

The Rest

The rest is the rest as usual. A game of Just One with my work mates was a good time, some Uno with the kids and a bit more dnup

What I am looking forward to next month.

Now is the..Fall.. of our discontent. The plays have dropped off and boy do I feel like they are going to continue to fall off. In fact I had some trouble finding the excitement to even finish this post hence why it is so late. I think that there will still be some games. But I anticipate it will look even more barren than than this month. Then again things can always surprise me….

Till next month!
